Same name, but fresh look for Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research

The Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research (QCMHR) has had a makeover this October, launching an eye-catching new image and website to reflect its standing as a mental health research leader and to re-energise its commitment to creating new knowledge about mental health.

Developed in consultation with staff, the new branding features a segmented letter Q, symbolising QCMHR’s remit as a Queensland-wide mental health organisation with multiple research programs spanning neuroscience; epidemiology, risk factors and burden of disease; clinical interventions and trials; service planning and evaluation; and mental health policy and practice.

The new logo’s clean, rounded font and understated shades of blues, purples and greens have been thoughtfully crafted to reflect QCMHR’s research depth and status as one of Australia’s most trusted mental health research organisations, working to improve mental health interventions and treatments and ensure mental health policies, practices, services, and systems are more effective at helping people with mental health issues.

The updated website maintains the same URL (www.qcmhr.org) but features a fresh new look and functionality to make it easier for people to search and find information about QCMHR’s research and outputs.

QCMHR Interim Director, Professor Harvey Whiteford, said the re-branding comes at a time of wider organisational change for QCMHR, which has bolstered its leadership and operations teams after 36 years of operation to enhance its ability to deliver high-quality, impactful research for decades to come.

“The saying goes that a change is as good as a holiday, but with the increasing demand for mental health services in Australia, QCMHR cannot afford to take a break from its vision to reduce the impact of mental illness in our communities,” Professor Whiteford said.

“Instead, we are working harder than ever to reshape our organisation and update our image to build our research capacity and profile.

“We hope this rebranding exercise drives awareness that QCMHR has been one of Queensland’s leading lights in mental health research for nearly four decades, largely due to ongoing funding from Queensland Health, our partnership with The University of Queensland, and the strength of our relationships with collaborators and partners.

“Having been part of QCMHR’s establishment from the mid-1980’s, I am immensely proud of the organisation we have become, our many contributions to better mental health treatments, services and systems, and the opportunity to share our new image with everyone.”

Established in 1987, QCMHR is funded by Queensland Health to work state-wide in Queensland and contribute to the local, national, and global research effort to improve mental health.
