With core funding provided by Queensland Health, QCMHR is hosted by West Moreton Health and led by Asssociate Professor Nicola Warren. The Director is supported by an Executive Leadership Group, comprising the Assistant Director of Operations and the Assistant Director of Research.
Strategic guidance to the Centre is currently provided by the Business Unit Management Group, comprised of the Executive Leadership Group members and Research Stream Leaders.
QCMHR's broader activities are structured underneath four foundational work programs addressing local, national and global research priorities, and mental health research capacity building.
We’re driving better mental health care across Queensland through:
Evaluation projects – assessing and improving services for consumers, families and providers.
Clinical trials – helping clinicians lead research that expands treatment options.
First Nations partnerships – working with the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health to gather new data, evaluate services, and strengthen community-designed hubs.
Our decades-long partnership with The University of Queensland powers 13 research streams and has helped QCMHR to:
achieve global recognition with five Highly Cited Researchers,
attract hundreds of millions in research funding,
train the next generation of mental health researchers and clinicians, and
deliver evidence that shapes policy, practice, and services nationwide.
We collaborate worldwide to understand and reduce the burden of mental illness. Highlights include:
Psychiatric epidemiology in Denmark with Aarhus University and Harvard,
Adolescent mental health surveys in Kenya, Vietnam and Indonesia with support from Pivotal Ventures,
Global burden of disease research with the University of Washington’s IHME, and
contributions to WHO reports and the World Mental Health Survey.
We’re shaping the future mental health workforce through:
teaching and supervising 40+ PhD students, many working in health services,
registrar, psychology and allied health training placements,
creating training for GPs, psychiatrists and frontline staff, and
developing national tools like the Mental Health Service Planning Framework.
