Self-reported health of ADF personnel after use of anti-malarial drugs

QCMHR’s Dr Fiona Charlson and Dr Harvey Whiteford worked with Dr Michael Waller and Catherine Runge on a report examining the long term effects of malarial drugs used in the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

A 2017 report from the Repatriation Medical Authority found insufficient evidence that chemically acquired brain injury is caused by anti-malarial drugs. However, it was noted that many studies did not include a follow-up of participants to measure the longer term effects of the drugs.

This present study investigates the self-reported health status of ADF personnel a number of years after anti-malarial drug use.
