About QCMHR

Established in 1987, QCMHR is Queensland’s premier mental health research organisation. Our vision is to be knowledge leaders in mental health research that aims to reduce the impact of mental illness in our communities. QCMHR’s unique structure is underpinned by an innovative and results-driven research partnership between Queensland Health and The University of Queensland (via UQ’s School of Public Health and Queensland Brain Institute). Though our headquarters are geographically based within West Moreton Health at The Park Centre for Mental Health at Wacol, QCMHR works with hospital and health services across the state to achieve our vision.

Research

Our world-renowned experts are working diligently from every angle to create new knowledge about mental health, and how to reduce the level of disability associated with mental illness. Our research seeks to understand the causes of and contributors to mental disorders, to quantify the prevalence and burden of mental disorders, to conduct clinical trials of new treatments, and to create new knowledge about optimal interventions to prevent and treat mental disorders and associated conditions.

Our work in Covid-19

Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research (QCMHR) researchers have been tapped on the shoulder by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington, to join their global COVID-19 Forecasting team. Led by Dr Alize Ferrari, QCMHR researchers will take on the COVID-19 forecasting work for select locations in the Asia Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand.
