Analysis of mental health service provision for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations in South East Queensland (ISEQ-NMHSPF)
Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research (QCMHR) was commissioned by the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) – the peak body of a regional network of five member Community Controlled Health Services – to analyse mental health service provision for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in South East Queensland (SEQ).
The project had three aims:
- describe and quantify the range of mental health services available to and accessed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in SEQ;
- identify the expected levels of mental health need, service activity and resourcing projected by the National Mental Health Service Planning Framework (NMHSPF) to provide the full range of required mental health services for this target population; and
- conduct a comparative analysis between current services provision and NMHSPF targets to identify mental health service gaps and inform future service planning and delivery.
The project was supported by a Steering Committee comprising representatives from IUIH; the Mental Health, Alcohol & Other Drugs Branch (Queensland Health); Metro North, Metro South, Gold Coast, West Moreton, and Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Services; and Brisbane North, Brisbane South, Gold Coast, and Darling Downs & West Moreton Primary Health Networks.
The final project report was delivered in November 2022.
