Andrea Baker is Assistant Director of Nursing Research for the Clinical Trials Unit at West Moreton Hospital and Health Service, The Park Centre for Mental Health. She has been in Health for 32 years with a speciality in Mental Health for 20 years. Her career experience to date has consolidated a diverse and sound base of advanced clinical skills and judgment, with a unique combination of independent practice, coordination and management, and integrated health care roles. Andrea Baker moved into research in 2009 where she coordinated a high profile national research project (Survey of High Impact Psychosis) from 2009-2011 and also completed her Masters of Mental Health in 2011. From 2011-2012 Andrea Baker co-coordinated a genetic study looking at identifying genetic variation underlying gene expression in schizophrenia. Since 2014, Andrea Baker has coordinated four Mental Health clinical trials across South East Queensland and Interstate.
Andrea Baker has a passion for research and utilises every opportunity to promote research within the hospital districts. In particular, promoting research among the nursing sector in mental health. Throughout Andrea Baker’s diverse clinical experience, she has clearly demonstrated advanced interpersonal skills that have allowed her to collaborate and negotiate with a broad range of clinical and community organisations and services to facilitate research. One of the main aims of the Clinical Trials Unit is to build a clinical trial platform that is feasible and sustainable.
